Princess Diana’s death ‘will be covered sensitively’ in The Crown following criticism

The Crown’s executives have vowed that the death of Princess Diana would be treated with ‘enormous compassion’ in the final season.

Since its debut in 2016, the Netflix drama has chronicled the late Queen’s role as monarchy’s leader, with Imelda Staunton set to reprise her role in the sixth season.

The makers have previously announced that the final episodes will take place in the 1990s, before and after the deadly Paris catastrophe in 1997.

However, the makers have come under fire for recording ‘distressing’ sequences in which she is alleged to be drenched in blood in hospital and in an open coffin following her death.

Actress Elizabeth Debicki, who plays the late Princess, earlier stated that the entire cast and crew were doing ‘their hardest to truly approach things with such care, honesty, and complexity’.

‘The show could be large and raucous, but we’re not,’ executive producer Suzanne Mackie said during the Edinburgh TV Festival. We are attentive and caring individuals. There were thorough, lengthy discussions on how we were going to accomplish it.

‘The audience will judge it in the end, but I think it’s been delicately, thoughtfully recreated. Elizabeth Debicki is an extraordinary actress and she was so thoughtful and considerate. She loved Diana. There’s a huge amount of respect from us all, I hope that’s evident.’

The Netflix film, starring Dominic West as Charles, Olivia Williams as Camilla, and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, says it will not recreate the ‘precise moment’ of the Paris tunnel vehicle tragedy.

However, images of the Netflix crew filming near the spot surfaced earlier this year.

According to recent sources, the forthcoming series, which also stars Dominic West, will include Prince Harry’s iconic Nazi uniform issue, while the last installment had ‘tampon-gate’ and Fergie’s infamous ‘toe-sucking’ photograph.

Season six is expected to conclude with King Charles and Queen Camilla’s 2005 wedding, and the actors and crew apparently recorded the sequences in April at York Minster, rather than St George’s Chapel in Windsor, where the pair really wedded.

The Crown is available to stream on Netflix.
