This year, Pointless has officially unveiled a new team of hosts to work with Alexander Armstrong.

Richard Osman announced his departure from the BBC quiz programme he developed after 12 years.

The 51-year-old TV personality claimed that he wanted to resign so that he could devote more time to writing, having previously authored many books, including The Thursday Murder Club.

After actress Sally Lindsay was the first to take the helm, a slew of celebrity hosts are expected to take over.

On Thursday, the BBC stated that celebs Andi Oliver, Gyles Brandreth, Nish Kumar, Lucy Porter, Ria Lina, Rose Matafeo, Sally Phillips, and Vick Hope will appear on the hit trivia show.

‘It has been a really fun process sharing the hosting with so many different guests,’ said presenter Alexander.

‘They have all brought their own styles and senses of humour, keeping the show fresh and exciting every time and I can’t wait to welcome more celebrity hosts to the show this year.’

‘What an amazing delight to go quizzy at teatime on the most legendary game shows around,’ said former Capital Radio personality Vick.

‘I like Pointless, am hooked with trivia and quizzes, and can’t wait to join Xander and the participants from Richard’s hot seat every day. One very thrilled meaningless co-host is on the way.’

‘As a little boy, I dreamed of being one of Santa’s little helpers,’ said This Morning host and broadcaster Gyles.

‘I have to tell you, being Xander’s little helper is even more fun. It’s like Christmas every day. I love it.’

Richard revealed a clip from the aforementioned recording in his final-ever episode with Alexander, which aired in July last year, in which he turned to Alexander to emphasise how much he liked working with him, since he didn’t believe he said so enough to his face.

‘I was just doing an interview, and they always ask about Pointless at the end of it, and they always say, “How is Pointless?” and they say, “What’s Xander like?” And I always say how lovely you are,’ Richard said.

‘And it occurred to me I don’t tell you in person often enough. So I just want to say how lucky I am to work with you.’

Pointless continues Thursday at 5:15pm on BBC One.
