Piers Morgan reaches out to Kate Garraway after emotional Derek Draper documentary: ‘Keep battling, Kate’

Piers Morgan has shared a message of support for former colleague Kate Garraway after watching her emotional documentary about caring for husband Derek Draper.

The broadcaster, 56, took to Twitter to write: ‘This was such unbelievably heart-rending television.

‘Keep battling, Kate – you and your remarkable family are a towering testament to the power of stoicism, courage & never-give-up spirit in the face of appalling adversity. Love you all.’

Kate’s latest documentary, Caring For Derek, aired on ITV on Tuesday evening, revealing what the past few months have been like for her caring for her husband at home.

Derek, 54, is one of the most-affected Covid-19 patients to have survived, but is left needing round-the-clock care and with damage to many of his organs and ongoing issues with communication.

She had shared the ups and downs of his continuing care at home, including a terrifying moment when Derek almost fell to the floor, with her having to throw her own body under his to cushion him and wait for her daughter Darcey, 15, and son Bill, 12, to arrive back and get help to lift him up.

Kate had also revealed that she had flown Derek to Mexico to receive specialist treatment from a world-renowned doctor who had heard about his case.

The couple are now hoping to return for another trip in the hopes that something can be done to improve Derek’s condition and improve his quality of life.

Kate had admitted that it was difficult being her husband’s carer after he was finally released from hospital 374 days after being admitted with Covid-19 in March 2020.
