Piers Morgan really couldn’t stomach Harry and Meghan’s podcast advert with Spotify and pretended to vomit as it aired on Good Morning Britain.
The duke and duchess of Sussex announced they are set to host and produce their first podcast with the streaming giant in a deal that is likely worth tens of millions.
Sharing the news on Tuesday, Harry and Meghan released a brief teaser of themselves acting out a scripted bit which some thought was cute but others, like Piers, cringed over.
Reacting to the trailer, Piers said on GMB: ‘How awkward. How utterly vomit-making,’ while Susanna Reid admitted: ‘I actually thought it was a parody… I didn’t realise until my editor played me the clip that it’s actually the podcast.’
Continuing his latest critique of the couple, Piers said: ‘If they want to do vomit-making podcasts it’s entirely their right but it boils down again [to] what are they thinking at Buckingham Palace? These two are still the duke and duchess of Sussex, they’re still royals.
‘They don’t do any of the nasty stuff, the wet Wednesday, the care home in Stoke-on-Trent, they’ve bailed out of all of that. They’re now making gazillions doing these commercials, very commercial deals which is absolutely fine but of course they’re only making the money because they’re the duke and duchess of Sussex, otherwise they wouldn’t make a bean.’
Susanna, who is usually a staunch defender of Meghan and Harry, confessed: ‘Even I’m finding it hard now but what I must say, everyone’s got a podcast so it’s fair enough that they have one.’
Piers, who also branded the move ‘ghastly’, chimed in: ‘If they carry on doing this, they’re gonna be making billions and fair play to them.
‘To me, absolutely fine if they drop the titles. Give up the titles.’
When Susanna suggested that Harry and Meghan are announcing all their ventures to troll Piers, he replied: ‘It is endlessly entertaining… I could spend the next 20 years mocking them.’
In addition to the podcast, Meghan has reportedly invested in a start-up business which makes instant oat milk lattes while she and Harry have signed a deal with Netflix, worth a reported £100 million.
The couple stepped down from royal duties in January before moving to Canada and then settling in California with son Archie.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
