Piers Morgan poked fun at Will Smith’s Oscar scandal by revealing he would have slapped Alex Beresford if he didn’t storm off the Good Morning Britain set last year.

The 56-year-old broadcaster notoriously walked off live on-air following a tense disagreement with the weatherman, 41, who attacked Piers’ criticism of Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In what has been branded as ‘the ugliest moment in Oscars history,’ Will, 53, slapped Chris, 57, across the face, after the comedian made fun of Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head – and Piers found himself ‘moved to defend’ the King Richard star.

Referencing his own viral dispute that sent shockwaves across the country, Piers retweeted a pic of him walking off in a huff, and wrote: ‘Ironically, I walked out to stop myself slapping him…’

Fans didn’t weren’t too impressed with Piers’ comment with one follower responding with a shirtless picture of a buff Alex and commented: ‘Riiiiight..’

‘Mate, you ran away from a part time weatherman rather than confront the issue,’ another added.

Hours after the shocking showdown Piers also expressed that he would have done the same thing if he had been in Will’s shoes.

He wrote: ‘You can think Will Smith wrong to slap Chris Rock but still understand why he did it if he thought – incorrectly – Rock was deliberately mocking his wife’s alopecia in front of a gazillion people. I’d have probably done the same.’

One person, who wasn’t impressed with his outlook on the situation replied: ‘Condoning violence is the issue. “I’d do the same” just spreads the message that violence is the answer.’

‘I’ll probably eat a doughnut for breakfast – but I’m not condoning obesity,’ Piers responded.

The outspoken journalist is set to ruffle some feathers once more, as his brand-new talk show Piers Morgan: Uncensored makes its debut on April 25.

The boundary-pushing talk show will be a ‘fearless forum for lively, intelligent debate and agenda-setting interviews,’ according to Piers.

‘I’m delighted to now be returning to live television with a new daily show whose main purpose is to cancel the Cancel Culture which has infected societies around the world,’ Piers enthused.

‘I want it to be a platform for lively vigorous debate, news-making interviews, and that increasingly taboo three-letter word: fun. I also want it to annoy all the right people.’

Piers Morgan Uncensored launches Monday 25 April on TalkTV.
