Piers Morgan ripped into those against the second lockdown branding them ‘callous’ for not being sensitive to the people dying from coronavirus.
England begins its second lockdown today after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced stricter measures to combat the rising cases of Covid-19 and deaths across the country.
Piers supports the move and called out those who he said are more worried about gym closures than saving lives.
‘Sorry, but I’ve seen so many people be so callous,’ he said on Good Morning Britain on Thursday.
He continued: ‘I’ve seen them all day long and it’s the disregard for those dying and the mayhem it’s causing and the mourning to the families.’
Susanna Reid countered: ‘Yes, but you’ve got to have sympathy for those who are going to be affected – and you describe them as moaning – actually are genuinely frightened for their livelihoods.’
However Piers hit back: ‘Those are two different things. I’m talking about the ones that are moaning that I think don’t have a lot to moan about, who don’t have the financial problems, don’t have health conditions and actually don’t want to have their freedom impinged.’
He later stated: ‘Well you know what? We’ve all got to do our bit. We’ve got to look after those who need medical treatment or need financial support. That is where our energy should be going.’
Susanna then warned her co-host: ‘You need to be careful not to come across as not being sympathetic to those people who are really going to struggle during lockdown,’ to which Piers clarified: ‘But they’re not the ones I’m talking about.’
Calling for the country to rally together to tackle the pandemic, Piers added: ‘If we get on top of this by December 2 and people do the right thing and we come together, come the second week of December we might be out of this.
‘But if we ignore it and the rates carry on flying and the death carry on surging they way they are, we will not be out of this and we will be in it for months.’
More than 42,000 people have died from Covid-19 in England while there are over 930,000 confirmed cases.
