Piers Morgan and DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles led the tributes to Andrew Marr as he stepped down from his flagship BBC programme after 17 years.

Marr quoted Ron Burgundy’s Anchorman as wrapped up his last episode at the helm following a string of interviews with guests Sajid Javid, Sadiq Khan, and David Tennant.

‘I have been wondering how to close this final show but I can’t do better than quoting my great mentor,’ he said, before adding: ‘You stay classy San Diego.’

Many have come out in full force to applaud Marr for his services to the BBC over the years.

Former Good Morning Britain host Piers shared a picture of him and Andrew together on the show.

‘Congrats on a brilliant run @AndrewMarr9 – you’ve been essential viewing on Sunday mornings & I always enjoyed our jousts,’ he penned.

Piers’ former colleague Charlotte Hawkins praised Marr’s last words, adding: ‘Great sign-off from @AndrewMarr9 on his final programme “You stay classy San Diageo”. What a legend!’

DIY SOS presenter Nick wrote: ‘Quite often people in tv think what they do is quite important – it rarely is. But today I have to mark the last @AndrewMarr9 show.

‘His body of work over such a long time at the highest level is a master class in journalism. I’ve not always agreed with him but he’s exceptional.’
