Picard season 3 star Michael Dorn humbly speaks out on his incredible legacy after making Star Trek history as Worf

Michael Dorn, who holds the record for the most appearances by a regular cast member in the franchise, has spoken up about the fantastic legacy he’s made as Worf.

Season 3 of Picard, the last season of the Amazon Prime Video sci-fi series, reunites Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart) with numerous old characters from his past, including William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden).

Worf, a Klingon warrior and Starfleet officer, also makes a return, having previously starred in the TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987, before moving on to Deep Space Nine and the films Star Trek: Insurrection, First Contact, and Generations.

Metro.co.uk recently chatted with Michael and his Picard co-star Michelle Hurd, who plays Raffi Musiker, on how he feels about making history over the course of his many years playing the scary role.

‘I didn’t really think about it or know about it until maybe five years ago, three or four… something like that, when somebody mentioned something and I thought, “Oh my God,”‘ the 70-year-old explained.

Michael remembers being asked if he was concerned about being “typecast” for the rest of his career when he was originally cast in Next Generation.

That concept, however, did not bother him in the least.

‘Ironically, when I initially started at Next Generation, someone asked me, “Are you worried of being typecast?” “Well, you know what, if they said, ‘Michael, you’re going to play Worf for the rest of your career,’ I’d be happy with it.” ‘And then I realised, oh my God, I’m going to play Worf for the rest of my career,’ he explained.

He noted that possessing the most appearances as a regular cast member in Star Trek was a ‘wonderful little legacy to have’.

‘It is a nice little legacy to have. A very nice little legacy. I don’t think anybody has done that, except for some of the old shows that went on for 20 years and stuff like that. But in terms of Star Trek, it was a nice little legacy to have,’ he stated.

Given the amount of Next Generation legends that appear in Picard season three, original series fans may be wondering what to anticipate from the show and how their separate narratives will be woven together.

Terry Matalas, showrunner, told Metro.co.uk that audiences who have followed these characters for years will be’satisfied’ with the finale.

‘In a lot of ways it’s a final sort of Star Trek The Next Generation film, a 10-part movie. And it’s sort of a passing of the baton from the last generation to the next in so many ways,’ he outlined.

‘I think I can guarantee that it’s a satisfying conclusion to Star Trek: The Next Generation fans and that we didn’t leave anything on the floor.’

Picard is available to watch on Paramount Plus via Amazon Prime Video, with new episodes released on Fridays.
