Paul Sinha has denied viewers’ concerns that the Chasers are too soft on celebrity candidates during special charity broadcasts.
The famous ITV quiz, which debuted in 2009, normally pits regular members of the public against experts, however celebrity editions have aired since 2011.
If a celeb team defeats the Chaser in the final round, the cash award is donated to a charity or good cause instead of being collected by the stars.
As a result, many fans of the Bradley Walsh-hosted series have argued that the Chasers take it easier in order to avoid depriving charity of possible donations.
Chaser Paul Sinha, 53, who plays The Sinnerman on the programme, has put an end to such suspicions with a scathing retort, declaring flatly: ‘A quiz is a quiz.’
‘People who ask us if the Chasers play as hard when we’re doing the celeb shows,’ he opened up in a on X, formerly Twitter.
He then continued, revealing the harsh truth: ‘With two seconds to go, I once prevented Rachel Johnson from winning £15k for Parkinson’s UK. A quiz is a quiz.’
One user responded that they were disappointed on behalf of the organisation but liked watching Johnson, brother of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, fail to win.
Other people expressed their displeasure with Sinha for refusing £15,000 to a major organisation.
Meanwhile, Sinha’s The Chase co-star Shaun Wallace, who performs as the Dark Destroyer, has signed up for an X-rated pantomime.
Wallace, 63, will appear in Jack and His Giant Beanstalk, an adult production at London’s Prince of Wales Theatre, to benefit HIV/AIDS organisations.
Former Big Brother competitor Simon Gross, who entered the house in 2015, wrote the play and will also appear in it as Queen Genitalia.
