The lineup for Danny Dyer’s upcoming television series is impressive.

The 45-year-old EastEnders actor stars in the brand-new reality programme Afraid of the Dark on Channel 4.

As if the title wasn’t terrifying enough, eight celebrities will enter the unknown in the name of competitiveness.

As they enter a fully pitch-black reality environment for eight days, their senses will go on the ultimate adventure.

Rather them than us!

The cast features former professional footballer Paul Gascoigne, Gogglebox’s Scarlett Moffatt, boxer Chris Eubank, and comedian Chris McCausland, who face their anxieties with courage (some may say insanity).

Actress Donna Preston, reality personality Chloe Burrows, The Wanted’s Max George, and retired professional fighter Nicola Adams will join them.

The eight must dwell in The Bunker, a living environment engineered to exclude all light and outfitted with fifty infrared cameras.

Over the course of five consecutive nights, the show will follow celebrities as they adjust to life in the dark.

If they choose to escape The Bunker (and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t? ), in the style of I’m a Celebrity, they must merely yell, “I’m Afraid of the Dark,” and they are led into the light.

In order to demonstrate their mettle, each celebrity will face a series of trials meant to test either their innate fear of utter darkness or their capacity to operate in total darkness.

Individuals who fail their challenges will be required to complete superhuman undertakings in order to remain on the show.

Each contestant will be inspired to overcome their worries since only one can emerge victorious in the end.

But will staying in the dark foster trust within the group, or will the overpowering terror drive them to break and ask for the lights to be switched on?

Honestly, we had shivers just imagining the entire event.

Danny remarked of presenting the horrifying programme, “This is one of the craziest things I’ve ever done in my career, and I’ve done a lot of crazy things.”

‘Throw in a bunch of celebs and make them do things with the lights off – it’s proper good telly

‘You’re gonna laugh, you’re gonna laugh some more and I promise you’re gonna love it.’

Yet, there is no need for concern, as clinical psychiatrist Dr. Tharaka Gunarathne will closely monitor the celebrities’ every action.

Dr. Gunarathne says ‘one the hardest challenges the celebrities face is dealing with the unknown; their psychological sense of uncertainty is at an all-time high.’

‘When you can’t see, your brain fills in the blanks and often imagines the worse. When you switch off the lights your ability to stay safe is suddenly threatened and that is what makes this particularly frightening.’

Scared of the Dark is coming soon to Channel 4 and All4.
