When Paddy McGuinness looks into his family history, he is going to learn something astounding about his name.
Who Do You Think You Are, one of the most cherished and intriguing series on the BBC, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
The show has been educating audiences about how fascinatingly fascinating genealogy can be for the past 20 years.
Stars that have participated in the past to learn more about their genealogy include Oscar winner Kate Winslet, Danny Dyer from EastEnders, and acting icon Dame Judi Dench. The episodes range from breathtaking to heartbreaking.
Paddy will be appearing alongside renowned people in the soon-to-be-released series, such as Melanie Chisholm, Olly Murs, Vicky McClure, Gemma Collins, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, and Rose Ayling-Ellis, who unearths a family history incident that strikingly resembles an EastEnders plot.
Regarding the Take Me Out and Top Gear star, he is going to receive a shocking revelation concerning his identity.
The fifty-year-old will, as it happens, find out that he was very almost not a McGuinness at all.
The original Gaelic version of McGuinness is Mag Aonghusa or Mag Aonghuis, which means “son of Angus,” according to the website House of Names.
Big surprises are in store for the other celebs in the lineup as well.
Singer Olly will discover that his family is not without performers, since some of his ancestors were in fact circus performers.
Mel C will discover that her family is political activists, while Rose, the former Strictly Come Dancing star, will hear about a familial incident that oddly paralleled an EastEnders episode in which she appeared.
While Olympic great Dame Jessica will learn all about a relative of hers in Jamaica who was a slave and later came to own their own land, former The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma will meet a member of her family that she did not know existed.
“This year we have a superb line up to honour 20 years of the nation’s favourite social history series,” stated Simon Young, head of history at the BBC, in reference to the next series.
‘Time and again it proves the old adage that truth is stranger than fiction, while helping us all to understand the history of Britain and the world much better, so it’s clear why our audiences have taken this series to their hearts.
‘I’m so grateful to all the celebrities who have shared their family histories, and to the incredible production team that pulls it all together.’
Who Do You Think You Are? will return on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this summer.
