We hadn’t seen all of One Direction in eight years, but we assumed that was about to change.
Unfortunately, it was a false alarm.
According to rumours, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne were planning a reunion to commemorate James Corden’s farewell Late Late Show.
Oh, and Zayn Malik was supposed to join them.
As you may guess, fans were completely out of their minds!
Unfortunately, the programme has subsequently clarified that the rumours were false.
A statement on the official Late Late Show Twitter feed read: ‘Nobody loves the lads more than us… But this story is just not true.’
‘What is true is we’ve got an incredibly spectacular 2 hour finale planned to honour 8 years of #LateLateShow at 10pm on April 27th,’ they said, assuring supporters they won’t be disappointed.
The Drag Me Down singers appeared on the late-night US show a few times when they were still together before splitting up in 2015.
They’ve all been on James’ couch as solo artists since, whether for interviews, concerts, amusing skits, or the fan favourite Carpool Karaoke.
Liam’s lone planned appearance is at Soccer Aid in June.
Zayn, who has lately returned to social media, also has no upcoming performances or overseas appearances.
If the Bradford-born singer does attend the reunion, it will be the first time we see all of his former colleagues in the same room since his painful exit from the musical trio.
But it appears that we will have to wait a little longer for those aspirations to come true.
One Direction fans went into turmoil after taking to Twitter to share their delight about the reports, only to be shattered by the truth.
‘one direction on late late show may actually complete my life’, one person tweeted.
‘if james corden can reunite one direction on his late late show i will go absolutely feral in fact the whole fandom of OG 1D times. the world would stay still. and then the amount of millions of tik toks it will be insane. i will get the date tattooed if it happens istg’, another tweeted.
Harry, Niall, Louis, Liam, and Zayn would have joined a very star-studded guest list that James just revealed ahead of his last series of gigs.
Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Josh Gad, Jennifer Garner, Brett Goldstein, Kate Hudson, Mila Kunis, Seth Meyers, Billy Porter, and Sharon Stone are among the celebrities slated to appear.
Allison Janney, who has appeared as a guest on the show the most times, will set a new record with her 15th visit.
The Kardashians, who have each appeared separately during the evening, will also appear in a Take a Break section.
Tom Cruise will join James in a previously publicised skit in which they will take the stage for an epic musical performance during The Lion King at Hollywood’s Pantages Theatre.
The highly popular Carpool Karaoke segment will be honoured with a one-hour primetime special, The Last Last Late Show with James Corden Carpool Karaoke Special, at 10 p.m. EST, before the final edition of the main show.
BLACKPINK, a K-Pop supergroup, has been confirmed to participate, and photographs leaked in recent days show the host shooting in a car with Adele.
To be honest, we can’t wait for it to begin.
