One moment in Netflix’s erotic thriller starring Richard Armitage and Charlie Murphy has many Obsession fans speechless.

The Hobbit actor plays William, who lusts after his son’s fiancée, played by Peaky Blinders’ Charlie, and unleashes an impulsive side as he forges secrets to begin a stormy romance – with catastrophic repercussions – in the sexual series.

One incident in particular has been branded ‘unhinged’ by observers.

William, who has followed his son Jay [Rish Shah] and Anna to France, discovers their hotel room after they have left.

He groans as he falls to his knees and crawls into the bed, sniffing out her smell on the pillow and rummaging around the bed before hastily undressing and humping the mattress in some genuinely wild sequences.

And viewers aren’t sure what to make of it.

‘The image of Richard Armitage and the pillow will stay with me for a long while – but not in a good way,’ one wrote.

Another penned: ‘Yo wtf is this man doing with this pillow?!’ as someone else echoed: ‘What in the unhinged madness is going on here chile. A pillow?! A pillow?!’

‘Whoever wrote that pillow scene need 10 Hail Marys cause ain’t no wayyyy,’ someone else commented.

This comes after Richard had said in an interview that the scene was partly improvised.

He told us: ‘It was really unexpected because it was written as quite a different scene.

‘There was a tissue with her imprint of her lipstick on which we didn’t feel necessarily worked.

‘I was really conscious that it shouldn’t be in any way comedic so we sort of left it quite open and it was a bit of an improvisation actually.

‘Charlie had – without me knowing – sprayed her scent that she’d been wearing throughout the shoot into different parts of the bed and I just got the sense of it, and that’s where the scene just opened.

‘But the recording it wasn’t too planned, actually.’

Obsession is available to watch on Netflix.
