Obi-Wan Kenobi has kicked off to an epic start on Disney Plus, with fans desperate to see more ahead of the release of episode 3 this week.
Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen lead the cast of the Star Wars series – reprising their roles from the prequel movies – with other cast members including Moses Ingram as Inquisitor Reva and Vivien Lyra Blair as the young Princess Leia Organa.
While watching episode 2 last week, several eagle-eyed viewers also spotted that Ewan’s daughter, Esther Rose McGregor, made an unexpected cameo, sharing a scene with her father.
So who does she play in a show that also boasted a cameo from Red Hot Chili Pepper bassist Flea?
Who does Ewan McGregor’s daughter Esther Rose McGregor play in Obi-Wan Kenobi?
In episode two of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Obi-Wan is searching for Princess Leia on the streets of the planet Daiyu when he encounters a spice dealer called Tetha Grig, played by his real-life daughter, Esther.
While Tetha offers to sell Obi-Wan spice, he tells her he’s after information about the whereabouts of a young girl, who he pretends is his daughter.
Tetha shares her very pessimistic outlook on the situation, telling the Jedi that if his daughter is missing on Daiyu, then he’ll never see her again.
Before leaving, Tetha places some spice in Obi-Wan’s pocket for free, telling him that if he uses it, he’ll forget about his daughter altogether.
Obi-Wan later uses the spice to get away from Leia’s captors and free her from their grasp.
Who is Esther Rose McGregor’s mum?
Esther’s mother is Eve Mavrakis, a production designer who Ewan married in 1995.
The couple – who finalised their divorce in 2020 – share four daughters together, two of whom were adopted. Esther, who was born in November 2001, is 20 years old.
This year, Ewan married Scott Pilgrim vs The World star Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Their son Laurie was born in June 2021.
Following Laurie’s birth, Esther shared a series of photos on Instagram of her cradling her newborn brother, writing in the caption: ‘Met my little brother looking like a pirate. I recommend! Welcome to the family little Laurie.’
She also urged Instagram users not to share hateful comments, adding: ‘Ps. If your gunna comment something nasty remember you’re on a 19 year olds Instagram who is happy with the family she now has. So your comment will immediately be deleted and not seen.’
Has she been in anything else?
Esther has previously starred in a couple of shorts – The Palisades, alongside model Kaia Gerber, and a 2021 release called Violet.
She also appeared in a series called Resting Pitch Face, starring in the cast with Bridie Connell, Emily Havea and Nakkiah Lui.
