Robert Rinder has addressed speculation he could replace Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain and hasn’t exactly ruled himself out.
Piers sensationally quit Good Morning Britain after more than 41,000 viewers complained to TV watchdog Ofcom when he refused to believe Meghan Markle’s claims she felt suicidal at the height of her mental health battle in the UK.
After an on-air row with co-host Alex Beresford, and a tidal wave of backlash from mental health organisations, Piers only doubled down on his remarks.
Speculations surrounding Piers’ replacement has been rife, naturally, with Ben Shephard currently filling in for the fiery presenter. But ratings for GMB have steadily declined day by day and the hunt for a new challenging host continues.
Enter Rob, who told Lorraine Kelly during her chat show today he does not ‘do nonsense of any sort’.
Watch out Matt Hancock…
The qualified barrister, known for not taking any prisoners, and being close pals with Piers’ co-host Susanna Reid said: ‘It would be a very interesting thing in deed.’
However, with Piers sparking social media outrage on the daily, he added: ‘I’m not sure I could endure the wave of Twitter hate.’
Following his departure from Good Morning Britain, Piers has already returned to ITV with a new episode of his Life Stories.
The 55-year-old has also confirmed plans to keep working with ITV on further episodes of the series, which sees him grill celebrities about their life on and off camera.
In the week that followed his exit, Ofcom confirmed it had received a record number of complaints for a single incident due to Piers, with more than 57,000 people reporting the presenter.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and Lorraine follows at 9am on the same channel.
