Nicky Campbell has called the police in response to allegations that he is the nameless BBC broadcaster embroiled in a crisis.

This weekend, reports surfaced that a BBC celebrity had been removed from the air due to an inquiry into them reportedly paying money to a youngster in exchange for pornographic images.

The man, who is claimed to be a well-known presenter, is accused of paying more than £35,000 to an unidentified kid in exchange for sexual pictures.

As the issue gained national attention, Campbell found himself the target of trolls and decided to put his foot down.

Taking to Twitter, the 62-year-old broadcaster tweeted a screenshot of an account accusing him of being the anonymous BBC personality.

The account originally shared Campbell’s image alongside the words: ‘This is the BBC host who paid teenager for sexually explicit photos’.

Campbell responded by filing a report with the Metropolitan Police.

He wrote: ‘I think it’s important to take a stand.

‘There’s just too many of these people on social media.’

‘Thanks for your support friends’, he added to his followers.

In response to a worried friend’s question about how he was doing, Campbell informed him that he was “all right.”

He isn’t the first BBC personality to be caught up in the mystery of the presenter’s identity.

Rylan Clark stated earlier today that he did not want his name to be involved in the discourse.

Taking to social media, the former X Factor star wrote: ‘Not sure why my names floating about but re that story in The Sun- that ain’t me babe.’

‘I’m currently filming a show in Italy for the BBC, so take my name out ya mouths,’ he added, referring to Will Smith’s infamous line from last year’s Oscars, when he told host Chris Rock to keep wife Jada Smith’s name ‘out of his f***ing mouth’.

His statement occurred after he commented on a pre-publication post of the newspaper’s front page.

Late on Friday night, Rylan wrote on The Sun’s post: ‘It’s s*** like this that makes Twitter wild, I’m filming a new show in Italy for the BBC.’

Meanwhile, sports commentator Gary Lineker has spoken up.

In a tweet, he denied being the subject of the claims, saying, ‘Hate to disappoint the haters, but it’s not me.’

Jeremy Vine has also spoken out, encouraging anyone who believes he is behind the tale to rethink.

‘This is seriously defamatory of me. I have screenshotted it and the retweets and passed it to a lawyer,’ he wrote after being accused.

‘There is no truth WHATSOEVER in what you are saying.’

He elsewhere added: ‘They are completely and utterly untrue.’

In a separate Tweet, Vine wrote: ‘Just to say I’m very much looking forward to hosting my radio show on Monday – whoever the “BBC presenter” in the news is, I have the same message for you as Rylan did earlier: it certainly ain’t me.’

The ‘teenager’ who allegedly received thousands of pounds from a TV celebrity is now 20 years old.

However, the problem is alleged to have begun when they were 17 years old, with their mother claiming that the money obtained was used to fuel a heroin addiction.

When asked about the alleged event, the young person’s mother stated it made her’sick’ to watch the presenter involved on television.

‘I blame this BBC man for destroying my child’s life,’ she added to The Sun.
