The creator of Netflix documentary Seaspiracy has clashed with Dermot O’Leary during a fiery interview on This Morning.
Filmmaker Ali Tabrizi appeared on the show alongside British fisherwoman Ashley Mullenger and Dermot’s co-presenter Alison Hammond.
While talking about the thought-provoking film, which takes a stark look at the impact fishing industries have had on the oceans, Ali and Dermot disagreed on whether people should be cutting fish out of their diets.
Dermot claimed that sustainable fishing was possible having owned his own fish restaurant.
After Dermot explained that the restaurant never served cod in the fish and chips because of the species’ dwindling numbers, Ali hit back by arguing that switching to other varieties was just as damaging.
Ali said: ‘Sometimes you could get by-catch and say well let’s just keep it and that will be sustainable but all that means is that the population of say dogfish starts getting depleted.

‘Time and time again we have this “adapt to diminishment”, the cod goes down so we move on to the next fish. That population goes down, then we move on to the next fish.’
He added: ‘So those measures might be better but ultimately I think we need to be leaving your oceans alone at this point.’
Ali was also left frustrated at the end of the interview, shaking his head after the talk came to a close.
Ashley spoke live from a fishing boat in Norfolk, saying that she believed the industry can still be sustainable.

‘I think there’s a lot this industry can do and I think there’s a lot people already are doing. There’s some great initiatives surrounding recycling, the nets and things like that which do wash up,’ she said, before questioning one of the studies quoted by Ali.
Clearly disagreeing with Sarah’s comments, Ali was seen shaking his head as the interview came to a close.
Meanwhile, Seaspiracy has left viewers horrified by showing the impact of the commercial fishing industry on our oceans – but the Netflix documentary has since faced controversy.
The filmmakers have even been accused of ‘bullying’ contributors and ‘cherry-picking’ moments from interviews.
