The Juno actor came out yesterday as transgender, confirming his pronouns are he/they, in a statement that has been praised and welcomed by the LGBTQ+ community and his colleagues and friends.
According to the New York Post, Netflix is in the process of updating Elliot’s name across the platform in the wake of his news.
Elliot’s name has already been updated on the Netflix cast lists for The Umbrella Academy, My Days Of Mercy, Tales of the City, Flatliners, Inception and Tallulah, which are available to stream on the service.
As of yet, the actor is still listed as his dead name, Ellen, in the episode credits of The Umbrella Academy.
However, the official IMDB page for the comic book series, in which Elliot plays Vanya, has been updated to reflect his name change.
According to reports, Elliot will continue to play the character of Vanya Hargreeves on the show, with no plans to change the gender of the cisgender female character.
Nick Adams, director of transgender media at GLAAD, told Variety: ‘Trans actors can and do play both trans and cisgender characters. I’m sure Elliot will continue to be brilliant in Umbrealla Academy and many different types of roles in the future.
