Following the release of the first look at the TV adaption of the rom-com One Day, Netflix viewers are anxious that they will struggle ’emotionally’ to cope.

Based on David Nicholls’ best-selling novel of the same name, One Day follows the romance of student Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley on the same day every year for the following two decades.

The novel was adapted into a hit film in 2011, starring Anne Hathaway, 41, and Jim Sturgess, 45, but has now been given the TV treatment by Netflix more than ten years later.

Ambika Mod and The White Lotus’ Leo Woodall, 27 are stepping into the Devil Wears Prada actor and Jim’s shoes for the 14-part series, which is sure to be a tearjerker.

The Bridgerton streamer has unveiled a plethora of images depicting Ambika and Leo in the throes of love ahead of the show’s February debut – just before Valentine’s Day.

One shot shows them laughing on the floor together after drinking some wine, while another shows them dressed for the occasion and wearing sunglasses while waiting at a port.

The images have left fans upset, and they are worried they will emotionally damage them.

‘HUHHHHHH NAAHHHHH I CAN’T HANDLE IT A SECOND TIME,’ one worried on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another asked: ‘Is this based on the movie of the same name or not? If it’s yes… this will ruin me in everyword same like the movie too. [sic]’

‘Netflix Dropped The First Pics From The One Day Series & I Don’t Think My Heart Can Take It. Yep, this is going to hurt,’ a third shared.

Fans are also hopeful that Ambika can carry off a Yorkshire accent, which Anne was accused of ‘butchering’ in the film.

Author David, however, when asked about Anne’s dodgy dialect previously insisted she did a ‘terrific job.’

He continued: ‘It’s never fun to focus on one element of the film and I think she did a terrific job.

‘It gets wearing but people took Emma to their hearts so it’s not surprising.

‘Characters on the page always have different characteristics to their on-screen versions and that’s one of the pleasures of adaptation.’

David also expressed his perspective on why both the book and the film were so popular.

He said: ‘People made a connection with their own lives, relationships and regrets. People saw themselves and their friends in the characters Emma and Dexter.

‘It was quite an emotional book and it was written with the intention of making people laugh and cry. It seems to have worked.’

One Day will premiere on Netflix on February 8.
