Nadiya’s American Adventure viewers label Nadiya Hussain a ‘balm for the soul’ after first episode

Viewers of Nadiya Hussain’s new show, Nadiya’s American Adventure, were calling for the series to be longer after gushing about how lovely the host is.

The former Great British Bake Off star, 35, travelled to the USA to explore its melting pot of cooking, with two episodes charting her journey.

The first episode, which aired on BBC One on Thursday, saw Nadiya visit New Orleans to discover more about Cajun cooking as well as how the area has recovered following Hurricane Katrina’s devastating effects in 2005.

Nadiya met a host of Louisiana locals, even cooking up catfish gumbo on the bayou with one of the families, as she learned more about the ways of life in the deep south.

Viewers took to Twitter to express how much joy the show brought them, and how much of a lovely, warm host Nadiya was as she met a variety of interesting people.

They tweeted: ‘Nadiya is lovely. She’s so naturally charismatic and personable and genuinely interested in people’ and ‘This is balm for the soul. Renewing my faith in humanity.’

Others added: ‘I do love Nadiya, She creates rapport with people and listens to them. Magic,’ and ‘I have such a soft spot for Nadiya, I’d watch her host anything.’

Viewers praised Nadiya’s empathy as she spoke to people rebuilding New Orleans after the hurricane, adding: ‘Said before and I will say it again, Nadiya is a Babe, her empathy for the people of New Orleans, brought tears to my eyes.’

Speaking about why she wanted to do the show, Nadiya previously told Herald Scotland: ‘Immigration has changed the food landscape in a way we don’t really even realise.

‘When people move and set up home in foreign lands, it becomes their home and with them they bring a wealth of knowledge, culture and of course food.

‘As a daughter of an immigrant, I hold my recipes from my parents’ homeland dear to my heart, but also appreciate the recipes that being British has taught me.

‘Being a part of two worlds has meant I love nothing better than to fuse the two parts of who I am to create food that represents me! That is what immigration does – it gives us the freedom to fuse.’

In the following episode, Nadiya will be heading to California to discover the culinary sensations of the West Coast.

Nadiya’s American Adventure continues on Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.
