We all make mistakes from time to time, and we’re quite sure that’s what happened to this My Mum, Your Dad star on Good Morning Britain today.
Davina McCall‘s dating programme for parents, dubbed “middle-aged Love Island,” is an instant sensation, with many people commenting on how emotional the first few episodes were.
Janey, 47, is expected to stir up the drama in the ITV dating show, organised by a bunch of youngsters anxious for their parents to find love, when she appears as a bombshell competitor on Tuesday night.
Will, Janey’s 20-year-old son, is the man behind her admission onto the programme, and the two came on GMB this morning to discuss it.
Ed Balls, a fan of the programme who said yesterday that he sobbed during the first episode, was granted the distinction of speaking to the mother-son combo.
He inquired about Janey’s experience as the ‘blonde bombshell’ arrival.
‘I loved it. I was really excited, and then I walked out and was like, “Oh my goodness, I don’t remember everyone’s faces, everyone’s names”,’ she said, before concluding: ‘People were really really nice to me.’
What Janey didn’t expect to hear next was Will’s response when asked why he entered his mother for the programme and what he hoped to gain from it.
‘I wanted to put her forward to finally isolate her dating life, because she intermingles it with other things like work and I just wanted to let her focus on that for once,’ he answered to the first. Fair enough.
But to the second, out of nowhere the 20 year old said: ‘Ideally she comes out with someone, but also if she comes out a better person generally.’ Ouch.
Janey’s mouth dropped to the floor in response, and she questioned her son, ‘Was I a horrible person?’ Will may have grasped the implications of what he said as he started to explain himself before being stopped off by the duo.
Chatting about being vulnerable on national TV, Janey said: ‘I’m 47, I feel a bit battered. I don’t care anymore, I will put it all out there. We’re all human at the end of the day.’
When asked who he’d want to see his mother marry, Will responded that his preferred father is pastoral support officer Clayton.
‘I’ll always love Clayton for some reason,’ he said.
On the episode, Roman Kemp urged the government to respond to his open letter on Twitter regarding the dismal state of mental health care in the United Kingdom.
The Capital Radio host questioned why the government’s goal of providing mental health treatment in 50% of schools was so low.
‘If there is a 50:50 chance that your child is going to receive proper mental health care, if you had two children, how do you decide which one gets the help?’ he asked.
Earlier in the broadcast, after one GMB celebrity slept through their alarm and arrived late to work, host Susanna Reid compared them to a cow being dragged out of a pit.
All in all, it was an interesting day.
