Miranda Hart, 49, has revealed that she is married after meeting ‘her person’.
The 51-year-old actress and comedian had acted in BBC sitcoms such as Hyperdrive and Not Going Out before her semi-autobiographical sitcom Miranda premiered in 2009.
It aired for three seasons and multiple Christmas specials, earning three Royal Television Society awards, four British Comedy Awards, and four BAFTA nominations before terminating in 2015.
Miranda also played as Camilla ‘Chummy’ Fortescue-Cholmondeley-Browne in the BBC drama series Call the Midwife for three years starting in 2012.
Miranda, who is now promoting her memoir-turned-self-help book I Have not Been Entirely Honest with You, shared some details about her personal life during an interview on The One Show on Tuesday night.
‘I got married!’ she exclaimed, moving a ring from one of her right fingers to the left.
‘I can now say that someone put a ring on it,’ she added as hosts Alex Jones and Alex Scott applauded and cheered.
‘I got married at 51. It’s just so lovely. I’d written Gary for on screen Miranda, and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met my person.’
She went on to claim that she would not tell how they met, but that it was all in her book.
‘He is my best friend, and we have the best fun and I am thrilled to be a young bride at 51!’ she added.
Speaking about meeting her now husband during the pandemic and while also battling a chronic illness, Miranda said she hadn’t wanted to ‘do life on my own anymore’.
‘The fact I could meet somebody isn’t a rom-com story, but it is hope that things really can change,’ she explained.
Miranda’s declaration follows her previous tease that her book would reveal information about her love life, as well as her appearance in recent images and videos on social media wearing a wedding band.
Miranda spoke on the BBC about battling her chronic illness, which she revealed to be Lyme disease, and how she is had ‘an unpleasant few years’.
‘I’ve mainly been in bed or housebound with chronic illness. It’s been a tough few years, which my book is charting. But it hasn’t been all doom and gloom- there has also been some joy as well,’ she said.
However, she did say: ‘One you’ve been in bed housebound with a chronic illness and fatigue that takes a long time to be diagnosed, you miss life a lot.’
‘Despite the suffering it came from, I am living a life of joy, meaning and fulfilment that I wasn’t before.’
Following her announcement, many viewers expressed their congrats and support for the actress.
‘Aww I’m so happy for @mermhart. Can’t wait to read the book,’ Rachel posted on X.

What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can be spread to humans by infected ticks.
A circular or oval shape rash around a tick bite can be an early symptom of Lyme disease in some people.
The rash can appear up to three months after being bitten by an infected tick, but usually appears within one to four weeks. It can last for several weeks.
According to the NHS, symptoms include a high temperature, or feeling hot and shivery, headaches, muscle and joint pain and tiredness and loss of energy.
One of the main treatments for those with the disease is a course of antibiotics.
Some people who are diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease continue to have symptoms, like tiredness, aches and loss of energy, that can last for years.
In August Miranda revealed she had had been experiencing feelings of ‘shame’ in recent years.
Wearing a T-shirt that read ‘Proud’ and holding her book, she at first joked she had ‘lost all of the midlife weight that was lumped on in the last three years’.
‘I haven’t,’ she whispered before pointing to the title of her book.
‘But can I just say I’m actually really quite proud of the fact that I’ve dismantled quite a lot of shame about my weight gain, not that because I don’t think bigger is beautiful, but because it isn’t quite me and I feel really uncomfortable and it’s one of the things I talk about in there,’ she added.
Miranda is streaming on BBC iPlayer. The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
