Unforgivable host Mel Giedroyc opened up on Katherine Ryan’s ‘totally happy’ newborn baby, who the Canadian star was praised for bringing to filming of the Dave show.
Comedian and former GBBO presenter Mel fronts chat show Unforgivable on Dave, where guests open up about their so-called ‘sins’ as they compete to be the most unforgivable person in the room.
One person who will appear on an upcoming episode is fellow stand-up star and actress Katherine, who made headlines when she brought her newborn son to her day of filming.
Chatting ahead of the second series to The Big Issue, host Mel admitted she was worried about how much swearing was taking place in front of Katherine’s baby son Fred.
Mel said of the experience of having a newborn on-set: ‘The baby was brilliant. The recording took almost three hours, but they lay there totally happily with Katherine. It was really moving.
‘I did feel bad about all the effing and jeffing in front of the baby. I was slightly worried. Then I thought, “Oh my god, what if my mum could hear me doing all this rudery?’”
‘But then I remembered she can’t watch it, because she doesn’t know how to get Dave, so it’s fine.’
Katherine previously shared a photo of her and Fred on the show on Twitter as she joked: ‘Two weeks old and already on a panel show. It’s that easy for men.’
When Mel told Katherine she was surprised she was back to work so soon, she replied: ‘Well, someone offered me money to come, so here I am.’
The star has also been taking Fred on her Duchess tour with her, but says she finds it more difficult now than it was when her 12-year-old daughter, Violet, was a baby.
She told the Evening Standard: ‘It is tough to tour with a baby. I hadn’t realised. I was a lot more elastic when I was 25, when I had Violet, both metaphorically and figuratively.
‘I wasn’t lucky enough that people were coming to see me on purpose when I was 25. I was gigging with my daughter, but I didn’t remember it being difficult.
‘My son Fred comes with me to all the cities and towns. I think we have cracked it now. He has seen a lot of the UK – we have got to do a lot of fun things. Every kid is different and I don’t think he enjoys being on the road as much as Violet did.”
Katherine Ryan will appear on the second episode of Unforgivable’s new series, airing one Dave at 10pm on February 15.
