Mel B was ‘bummed’ Spice Girls didn’t perform at King Charles III’s Coronation Concert as she teases reunion plans

Mel B has acknowledged that she was’sad’ that the Spice Girls did not perform at King Charles III’s Coronation Concert.

Nicole Scherzinger, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry, as well as Olly Murs and Paloma Faith, attended the event on Sunday, May 7.

While Scary Spice was there for the King’s Coronation, she has since claimed she was ‘bummed’ not to have performed at the event.

In a chat with Metro.co.uk, Mel, 48, said: ‘I would love to have done that to be honest.

‘I was pretty like, bummed out that we didn’t do that.

‘I was really wanting that to happen so I was a bit sad it didn’t, well a lot sad.’

She elsewhere addressed rumours that the Spice Girls were going to be announced for Glastonbury’s Legends slot, saying: ‘I would love to but I’m just one of five. So we’ve got to figure that out.’

‘I mean, we’re constantly in talks” she says of her reunion plans with Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm, and Victoria Beckham.

‘There is something that we’re going to be doing all five of us, but nothing’s going to be announced just yet.

‘But it will be pretty soon!’

The Spice Girls famously made an impact on Charles back in 1997, when the girl group offered then-Prince Charles one of the most chaotic meet-and-greet experiences ever, ahead of their royal gala performance honouring the Prince’s Trust Charity.

Mel B not only suggested that the future monarch get his tongue pierced, but she also put a lipstick-covered kiss on his cheek.

Talking about her iconic moment breaking royal protocol, and whether she would do it again, Mel confessed: ‘Me and Geri did kiss him when we were in our late teens. I’m now 47, so I don’t think that would be that appropriate.

‘I could get away with it in Spice Girls and when I was a younger version of myself but no, we kind of have to have more respect, especially because he’s King now.’

Mel is now a judge on Queen of the Universe’s second season, with Michelle Visage, Trixie Mattel, and Vanessa Williams.

Talking about her new role, she told us: ‘It’s fabulous, I get the best seat in the house, I get to see them up close and personal.

‘I get to question their outfits, their hairstyles, their corsets, their song choices.

‘For me it’s really enjoyable because they’re singing live, which is a whole different twist to this kind of show right now, and it’s on a massive platform which is way more international than it was before.

‘We’ve got contestants from the Philippines, Los Angeles, from all over, the list is endless, it’s just a really good, international, fun show.’

Having previously guest judged Ru Paul’s Drag Race, she continued: ‘It is one of those things where you just wish it would have been more global and more accessible a lot, lot earlier, like decades ago, but there’s no time like the present.

‘So I’m just glad that I’m part of this first wave.’
