Matt Hancock’s pay for SAS: Who Dares Wins was announced months before he appeared on our screens for the second time in a reality television show.

The former health secretary is back on television after finishing third on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! earlier this year, losing behind Owen Warner and Jill Scott.

In the Channel 4 reality programme, he now appears with Gareth Gates, Melinda Messenger, and James Argent as 16 celebrities are put through their paces in the jungle phase of SAS selection in Thung Ui, north Vietnam.

The former MP earlier stated that the trials ‘p****d[him] off’ and that he was even given the awful moniker ‘Matt Handj*b’.

‘They were rather disrespectful. ‘They were calling me names, pulling the p**s out of my surname, and that irritated me,’ he told The Sun.

Jermaine Pennant violently punches Hancock to the ground in one challenge, in addition to a severe questioning by Special Forces Operator and Royal Marine Mountain Leader Chris Oliver and Royal Marine Commando and Special Forces Sergeant Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox.

But how much was he paid for his time on the show?

Hancock confirmed last year that he was paid £45,000 to appear on the show.

He disclosed the money in a November 2022 update to the MPs’ Register of Interests.

The entry also revealed that he spent 80 hours shooting Celebrity SAS between September 24 and October 8, while Parliament was in recess, soon before flying to Australia to appear in the jungle.

Soon after, it was revealed how much Hancock was paid to go on I’m A Celebrity: £320,000 for 30 days in the jungle.

Of that, it was confirmed that Hancock donated £10,000 to charity, with a spokesperson saying:  ‘As well as raising the profile of his dyslexia campaign in front of 11-million viewers, Matt’s donated £10,000 to St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk and the British Dyslexia Association, off the back of his appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.’

After this donation, he told ITV during an interview on January 31: ‘I didn’t primarily do it (go on the reality show) for the money, I primarily did it to try to show who I am.

‘I think £10,000 is actually a decent sum.’

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins airs tonight at 9.30pm on Channel 4.
