MasterChef is moving to Birmingham as part of a multi-series deal keeping the show on the BBC for six years.

The exciting development – which is part of the Beeb’s Across the UK plans to expand outside London – comes as part of an agreement between BBC and the show’s producer Shine TV which means all programmes will be made at Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s new Digbeth Loc. Studios complex in the Midlands from 2024.

This will include the main MasterChef series on BBC One – hosted by Gregg Wallace and John Torode – plus professional and celebrity spin offs, along with upcoming BBC Three show Young MasterChef and any festive editions.

The move marks the first time the show will be produced outside of London since 2001, with the original series filmed at Maidstone Studios in Kent for 11 years following its launch in 1990.

Tim Davie, the BBC’s Director-General, said in a statement: ‘We said we would create jobs and investment, bringing decision-making and productions to the West Midlands as part of our Across the UK plans.

‘Moving one of our biggest programme brands shows we are making that a reality. This is great news for Birmingham and the BBC.’
