Martin Lewis has once again had to remind This Morning viewers he does not partake in any advertisements, as he responded to concerns raised by fans.
The Money Saving Expert joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Wednesday’s edition to give out some more of his vital financial advice.
However, the TV personality is trusted by many and has subsequently been the victim of scammers using his name on fake campaigns – something which he addressed again today.
In 2018, he started a campaign against Facebook for defamation over fake adverts using his face and name, mostly promoting ‘Bitcoin’ and ‘investing’. He later dropped the action after Facebook agreed to fund an anti-scam project.
So Martin immediately started shaking his head when Holly brought up a campaign Martin was supposedly involved with in relation to Bitcoin.
When the host asked whether it was genuine, he bluntly replied: ‘Yes, it’s a scam. It’s absolutely a scam, I do not do any adverts.’
He reminded viewers that Bitcoin is a ‘speculative investment’, which he says is something he does not cover.
Martin went on: ‘I’m not going to go into whether it’s good or bad, some people love it, some people say it’s destabilising and I certainly wouldn’t put any more money than you can afford to lose in there, but it may well make you a lot of money if it goes right.’
However, he continued on his rant to try and get his clear message through to viewers.
‘The stuff you see on social media, with my face, often with yours as well Holly, we’re together and I’m telling you about some incredible life-changing way that has revolutionised my way is lying, scamming thieves trying to steal your money.
‘I do not appear in adverts, I do not trump up investments. If you see those, the fact it’s got a photo and a quote from me and a link to something that looks like a newspaper website, it is not real,’ he confirmed.
Martin went on to then detail how the scammers work, and persuade people into handing over their money with tempting promises of further cash.
He concluded: ‘It’s all great until you want your money out and it doesn’t exist. I had someone in touch online again, asking “When are you going to do something about this? I know someone who’s losing nearly 200,000 and they’re talking about taking their own life.”
‘These are scams. Do not give them your money, report them to the police.’
It comes after UK Action Fraud – which is run by the City of London Police told members of the public to watch out for fake emails regarding Bitcoin investments that claim to be from the MoneySavingExpert.com founder.
More than 1,000 people reported receiving scam emails in the space of just three days, earlier this month.
The account tweeted: ‘We’ve received over 1,000 reports about emails promoting Bitcoin investment schemes claiming to be endorsed by @MartinSLewis 
This is a scam,’ followed by details of how to report suspicious emails.
