Martin Compston warns fans about getting ‘excited’ over Line Of Duty season 7 rumours: ‘There’s nothing I can give’

Martin Compston has asked Line of Duty fans to ‘wait for formal confirmation’ on season seven rumours.

While he, show creator Jed Mercurio, and castmates Vicky McClure and Aidan Dunbar are all interested in creating further episodes of the police corruption thriller after some fans were disappointed by the season six conclusion, there are no new developments, according to the 38-year-old actor.

Reflecting on a meeting earlier this year during an appearance on Friday’s Good Morning Britain, he said: ‘Look, nothing’s changed. I’m really chuffed, we’re really delighted people still want us back.

‘That conversation, we had a really honest one whether we were all up for doing it again, and I believe we all are.

‘But unfortunately, at this point in time, there’s nothing immediate, there’s nothing coming very soon. I think we’d all like to at some point, it’s just all getting us together.’

Martin insisted the speculation isn’t ‘fair on the fans’, who have their expectations built up by speculation about the future of the show.

‘I think probably the best thing is to wait for official confirmation from us, because it’s not fair on the fans either, people getting excited and not knowing what’s gonna happen,’ he added.

‘So I think probably wait for confirmation from us, but unfortunately there’s nothing I can give.’

Martin was on GMB talking with his friend and Restless Natives podcast co-host Gordon Smart, who was fronting this morning’s show with Charlotte Hawkins, but he couldn’t persuade his companion to give any additional facts.

‘You were actually present, I believe, for the last big conversation I had about it in April,’ the actor said. ‘You hosted the fundraiser for my local hospice, and Jed, Adrian and Vicky were there.’

His comments come after Vicky was also asked about the possibility of a new run on Good Morning Britain, to which she responded earlier this month: ‘I’ve got nothing to tell you because I’ve got nothing to tell you.’

However, she added reassuringly: ‘I speak to the lads all the time and we’d love to, we’re all game.

‘I think it’s just a case of now – Martin, I think he’s in about nine shows or something. He’s busy [but] I’m sure we’ll get there.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1.
