The writer of ITV series Marcella thinks that some viewers ‘won’t be satisfied’ with how season 3 ends.
The hit drama which stars Anna Friel as Marcella Backland, will begin tonight but not as fans know it.
The new eight-part series will see Marcella in Belfast as an undercover detective – and with a brand new identity.
As she inhabits the new character of Kiera, Marcella sets her sights on focusing upon the Maguire family’s criminal operations.
However, as she investigates their activities, questions start to arise about how much she’s embraced the Keira personality and left Marcella behind.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk about whether viewers will be happy with the ending, writer Hans Rosenfeldt began: ‘Some will be satisfied, but some will not and I can’t tell you why.
‘There will be some who will think “That was a good ending” and some will say “That was not a good ending.
‘It is an end whether you like it or not, we’re not ending on a cliffhanger.’
Hans went on to explain that there could have been a different outcome to season three.
He continued: ‘We had a few (endings). Not that many, but the ending that’s there now was one of the first we talked about.
‘We had one or two more that could have been a possible outcome for the show.’
How did season 2 end?
The last we saw of troubled Marcella was when she went to throw herself off a building before her colleague Rav Sangha (Ray Panthaki) came to the rescue.
After she confessed to Rav about her dead daughter Juliette, Marcella then attacked him and left him handcuffed to a toilet cubicle.
She then cut off her hair, sliced open her mouth and faked her own death.
Season three of Marcella will see a brand new cast, but one familiar face returning is Rav – who soon realises that his former colleague is not dead.
But, how will it play out?
Marcella begins tonight at 9pm on ITV.
