Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming scary real crime documentary Who Killed Jill Dando?
The former Crimewatch co-host was murdered on the doorway of her house in Fulham, south-west London, over 24 years ago, in a heinous crime that remains unsolved.
Dando, 37, died in April 1999 after being shot once in the head, and her body was discovered soon after by a neighbour.
Barry George, a local, was convicted and imprisoned for the murder, but he was exonerated after an appeal and retrial after eight years in jail.
Viewers are shown video of Dando at the peak of her career in the most recent teaser.
After Dando’s death is discovered, the narrator states, “The golden girl of British television murdered on her doorstep in broad daylight.”
A man who was wrongfully convicted of her murder also comes out.
‘It makes me angry that they’ve taken eight years of my life,’ he says.
The teaser also includes snippets of relatives, friends, journalists, detectives, and attorneys, each of whom offers their view on what happened to Dando.
‘Netflix is in development on a documentary series on the life and untimely death of one of Britain’s most renowned and adored television presenters, Jill Dando,’ according to an announcement for the project.
‘On the morning of 26th April1999, Jill Dando was killed outside her home in West London. Her murder became one of the most high profile and complex investigations in British history.
‘The multi-part series will blend archive, new research and revelatory interviews, to revisit Dando’s life, career, legacy and what would become one of the most notorious unsolved murders of the 20th century.’
Barry George was convicted in 2001 after being detained on suspicion of Dando’s murder.
He was sentenced to life in prison at the time, but was cleared and released following a retrial in 2008.
No one else has ever been caught or charged in connection with the killing, and the case remains unresolved to this day, with Dando’s family expressing scepticism that her perpetrator will ever be located.
