Lucifer season 5B ‘still not finished’ as writer confirms pandemic caused severe delays

Sorry, Lucifans – it seems that we’re not getting Lucifer season 5b anytime soon.

The writing team have confirmed today on Twitter that they are yet to complete the new episodes, after coronavirus threw production into chaos.

Fans of the Tom Ellis-fronted series have been desperate to know what happens to their favourite Devil following the unscheduled arrival of his twin brother Michael and his dad, God (Dennis Haysbert).

With Lucifer’s love Chloe Decker (Lauren German) left hanging in the lurch just as they were about to have a much needed heart-to-heart, there’s a lot left up in the air.

However, the statement warned fans not to get their hopes up that something’s happening any time soon – because the team’s as in the dark about the return as the rest of us.

‘We know everyone wants to know, but truth is even WE don’t know when #LuciferSeason5B will come out,’ they wrote. ‘It’s not finished yet. The pandemic blew up our plans.

‘But when we have an official release date, trust us, we’re dying to let you know! Same with a trailer. #patience #Lucifer.’

Filming for the second half of season five wrapped in October, once the industry-wide lockdown was lifted.

The series had been slated to end after its fifth series, but later U-turned on the decision, forcing writers to make some edits to the upcoming 5b.

The only teaser we’ve been given to date is a glimpse of the aftermath of Michael and Lucifer’s showdown fight at the police station, with Amenadiel and Maze being thrown in for good measure.

After God’s appearance, time has unfrozen but it seems that none of the celestial faves are in sight, with Chloe looking around the trashed LAPD HQ before simply saying: ‘Has anyone seen Lucifer?’

It should be worth it though, with the team suggesting that season six, that’s currently being filmed, will have a Christmas episode.

Lucifer is available on Amazon Prime Video (seasons one to three) and Netflix (seasons four and five).
