The new year hasn’t gotten off to the best start for Love Island’s Jacques O’Neill, who revealed on Monday that he’d suffered a nasty injury.

The rugby player shared a photo on social media of his injured foot wearing a cast boot, and in the background, a pair of crutches could be seen sitting next to him on the sofa.

The reality star, whose leg was propped up on a little table in front of him, explained: “Was hoping for a better 2023 but starting the year with a fractured foot.” (Was hoping for a better 2023.) It’s all in your head.’

Jacques did not provide any other information regarding the accident with his 1.3 million Instagram followers, who are likely concerned about him as a result. Jacques has not been seen since the accident.

After allegations surfaced that Jacques and his ex-girlfriend on Love Island, Paige Thorne, were getting closer in the wake of her breakup with Adam Collard, the news of Jacques’ accident emerged.

Jacques and Paige were an item for a good portion of the season of Love Island that aired last summer. Despite the fact that their relationship went through some rough patches, Jacques eventually left the programme to put his mental health first and pursue other opportunities.

Once Jacques left the villa, Paige grew closer to Adam and they went on to date for a few months before calling things off in October.

A month later, rumours started swirling that Paige and Jacques had picked up where they left off, with a source saying: ‘Paige and Jacques clearly got on really well with each other on the show.

‘They have hung out whenever they see each other and one thing has led to another.’

The insider added to The Sun: ‘It’s all just a bit of fun at the moment, but they have both said “never say never”.’

Paramedic Paige recently confirmed she’d been in contact with Jacques for the first time since leaving villa, before stressing that they’re still ‘just friends’.

‘It’s spreading that me and Jacques are back in contact, and we’re going to be “reunited” and all this kind of thing,’ she recently told Cosmopolitan.

‘We’ve literally had one conversation on the phone. It’s just friends. Everyone can chill out with the speculation that “Paige and Jacques, she’s gonna go back to him”.

‘It’s not quite like that. We’re just friends.’
