Love Island star Paige Turley has admitted she finds it difficult to be taken seriously with her singing career after her appearance on the ITV reality show, despite previously auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent.

Paige was crowned winner of the January 2020 edition of Love Island, along with her boyfriend Finley Tapp.

Since her appearance on the show, which also featured Siânnise Fudge, Luke Mabbott and Nas Majeed, the 24-year-old Scottish singer has said it’s been difficult breaking into the music industry.

Paige opened up on how challenging it is trying to create a name for herself in music, after so many people know her from her image on Love Island.

Speaking on BBC’s One More Tune, she said: ‘I definitely do find it a challenge.

‘I think a lot of people thought that coming from the show would be this huge advantage because I’ve got a platform and people that follow me.

‘But if anything it’s more difficult I’ve found. It’s a bit of a double-edged sword.

‘I’ve got this platform but people don’t know me for music so it’s been challenging but hopefully in the long run it pays off.

‘A lot of the audience that are there just now want to see what you’re wearing, they want to see how you’re styling your hair.

‘So if you put on anything music-related they don’t know you or follow you for that.

‘It’s then trying to find additional fans that are there for the music as well as what I wear my hair like or what I wear my clothes like.’

However, Love Island isn’t her only claim to fame – Paige has previously applied for Britain’s Got Talent, and has a famous face in ex-boyfriend, Lewis Capaldi.

Paige and Lewis dated on and off for about a year before finally calling it a day in 2016.

Arriving into the Love Island villa, Paige had revealed that Lewis was her ex, and said at the time: ‘According to the papers the song Someone You Loved was about me.’

However, Lewis later revealed the song was a tribute to his late grandmother.

In July 2020, months after walking out of the Love Island villa, Paige released her debut single after landing her ‘dream’ record deal.

Teaming up with The House & Garage Orchestra and New State Records, she released a cover of Artful Dodger’s hit Movin’ Too Fast, and described the collab as a ‘dream come true.’

One More Tune is available to watch on BBCiPlayer.
