Fans of Love Island were delighted by Whitney Adebayo’s gasps and gawks as they awaited one of the season’s most heated re-couplings on Tuesday night.
The evening’s eventful episode concluded on a cliffhanger after the start of a switch-up that rocked the villa and startled participants, to say the least.
When this year’s batch heard the usual SMS ping, they made their way to the Mallorcan fire pit and awaited their fate as the anxiety grew.
The virtual voice of God told the males to choose their selections, but a surprise twist had jaws falling as the new bombshells – Charlotte Sumner and Leah Taylor – picked first.
To cut to the chase, Leah chose to share a bed with Tyrique Hyde, eliciting a dramatic gasp from Whitney and a look of dread from his ex-partner Ella Thomas, who tried to fight back tears at the news.
Charlotte then expressed her want to get to know Zachariah Noble and revealed that she will be teaming up with him for the next round of love-seeking in Spain.
Fans flocked to Twitter to collectively applaud Whitney for giving entertainment, causing uproar among the girls, particularly Molly Marsh, as they stood in queue waiting to be selected.
One wrote: ‘WHITNEY IS SO DRAMATIC [sic],’ with a string of laughing faces while another said: ‘Whitney’s “hummmmmm” when Lea said Ty finished me I’m sad for her btw [sic].’
‘The producers did a thing when they cast Whitney! She’s so funny omd [sic],’ was a social media account’s response to the night’s antics.
Whitney took main stage in the early portions of the show when she and Mehdi went on her first date with Mehdi Edno.
She received a text which read: ‘Whitney, It’s time for you and Mehdi to head off on your first date. #MehdiMania #ItsWhitneyB***h.’
Elsewhere, Zachariah leant in for a kiss with Molly following his date with Charlotte and Leah.
The 25-year-old headed up to the terrace to tell Molly: ‘I think over these last few days, I’ve genuinely enjoyed this. I’m glad I’ve got you up here, this is nice…’
Leaning in for a smooch he confessed: ‘I think it’s been a long time coming. Definitely something I could get used to though.’
Love Island airs on Wednesday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
