Following the announcement of the 2023 series’ winner pair, Love Island viewers were left perplexed.
Sammy Root and Jess Harding were named the winners, taking home the £50,000 prize, with Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki placing second.
While Molly Marsh and Zachariah Noble placed fourth, Tyrique Hyde and Ella Thomas finished third.
The vote, however, has angered ITV2 viewers, with many saying it was “fixed” and calling for a “recount.”
‘Jess and Sammy? Imma need a recount,’ as one fan put it, while another fumed: ‘THIS IS RIGGED AINT NO WAY SAMMY AND JESS WON OVER WHITNEY AND LOCHAN.’
A third confused Twitter user added: ‘Whitney being the Uk favourite for 6 weeks but somehow SAMMY AND JESS WON?!!’

Some fans, however, were thrilled with the result, with one enthusing: ‘Yay I’m so happy for Jess and Sammy#LoveIsland.’
Their sentiment was echoed by another X user, who wrote simply: ‘Yay Jess & Sammy WON !!!! #loveisland.’
After Sammy and Jess were announced as victors, Whitney and Lochan put their support behind them, referring to them as “our winners” and that they were “over the moon” for them.
Maya Jama asked Sammy and Jess if they thought they would win the series, and they both chuckled in response.
The males dressed in tuxedos for a summer ball and waited for their partners to enter before the finalists all delivered professions of love before the winners were announced.
Jess told Sammy: ‘Knowing how much it takes for you to get strong feelings screams to me how serious and genuine our connection is.’
Sammy replied: ‘It took some time at the beginning of my journey to realise what I was risking but when I saw you walking towards the fire pit on your own after Casa, I instantly knew that you were all that I wanted, my wandering eye turned into my eye for Jess.’
Meanwhile, Whitney told Lochan ‘you’re exactly what I’ve been looking for’ as she showered him with praise for ‘telling me I look beautiful every time you get.’
Lochan responded: ‘I want to continue making you happy, growing together, laughing together which is why I can confidently say that I don’t see a future with anyone else on the outside and I can’t wait for our next chapter.’
