TVLorraine Kelly defends Meghan and Harry’s baby name tribute to the Queen: ‘You can call a baby whatever you want’ June 7, 2021June 7, 2021 Share0 https://videos.metro.co.uk/video/met/2021/06/07/6479742850129806523/480x270_MP4_6479742850129806523.mp4 Lorraine Kelly has slammed claims that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had to ask the Queen for permission to name their baby daughter after the monarch. It was announced last weekend that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, gave birth to her second child with Harry in California. The couple chose to name their baby girl Lilibet Diana, a tribute to Queen Elizabeth’s nickname and Harry’s late mother Diana, the Princess of Wales. Discussing the baby name choice, Lorraine said on her ITV programme on Monday: ‘Some of the papers this morning were saying, “Well hang on a minute, did they ask permission from the Queen?” you don’t have to ask permission to name a baby. Really? ‘You can name a baby whatever you like, surely?’ Royal correspondent Russell Meyers replied: ‘Harry had said to the Queen that he may name a daughter, before he had a daughter, after her so he didn’t really ask for permission as such but it was a nice surprise for the rest of the Royal family.’ Offering her theory, Lorraine then said: ‘I wonder if this was, you know naming her Lilibet Diana, just a gesture to say, “look we’re really sorry, we don’t want all of this horribleness, we just want to be pals”.’ Meghan and Harry, here with son Archie, welcomed their baby girl on Friday (Picture: EPA) Russell said: ‘I think it’s a lovely gesture, everyone loves a baby, perhaps it can have these healing powers for the family. It’s been a pretty turbulent time over the past few weeks,’ to which Lorraine replied: ‘I hope so.’ Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter, a senior aide to the Queen from 1988 until 2000, agreed that the name could be an ‘olive branch’ to the Royal Family. ‘He moved to California to distance himself, but choosing this name is a complete about-face,’ he wrote in The Mirror. ‘So I wonder if taking the Queen’s nickname for his baby is an olive branch? Only Harry can answer that.’ Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV. Credit: Original article published here. You can read this post on My Celebrity Life.
