The panelists of Loose Women have garnered positive feedback for choosing to abstain from discussing Huw Edwards’ scandal.
Tuesday night saw the unveiling of the BBC anchor embroiled in allegations of paying for sexually suggestive pictures.
Edwards, aged 61, has been a significant persona of the national network, covering royal events and crucial political turning points for many years.
Vicky Flind, Edwards’s wife made an announcement on his behalf revealing that Edwards is dealing with grave mental health problems and currently in hospital care where he will remain ‘for the substantial future’.
She further appealed to the public to respect the privacy of ‘my family and everyone else affected by these distressing events’.
Thursday’s Loose Women panel, which included Kaye Adams, Coleen Nolan, Sophie Morgan and Denise Welch, opted to commemorate this request.
As the program commences, Kaye provides an update regarding the news topic.
‘Yesterday night, and I am certain you are acquainted with it, Huw Edwards was declared by his wife as the BBC presenter entangled in the media tempest following the allegations made against him,’ she reported to the camera, subsequently, reading Vicky’s statement.
She further specified: ‘We cannot comprehend what his family is experiencing during this predicament and Vicky has requested their privacy to be respected, thus we will abide by and leave the matter as such.’
The studio audience strongly supported the panel’s choice, applauding Kaye’s completion of her speech; several home viewers also endorsed the decision to avoid further discussion.
‘That was executed in an extremely respectful manner just now on Loose Women regarding Huw. Kudos to all on how you expressed it,’ a spectator voiced on Twitter.
‘Sign of elegance,’ commented another.
In her statement, Vicky expounded on the severe difficulty faced by the family in the past five days and her reasoning to make a pronouncement was a consequence of ‘concern for his mental health and to shield our children’.
She depicted that her husband intended to respond to the allegations once he was ‘adequate enough’ to do so and also mentioned that he felt ‘deep remorse that numerous colleagues have been affected by the recent media anticipation’.
The Metropolitan Police ratified today that there was an absence of evidence suggesting a criminal offense was committed.
Loose Women is aired on ITV1 weekdays from 12.30pm.
