Vicky McClure has spoken out about the incredible Line of Duty interrogation of Boris Johnson that went viral… all the while playing coy when it came to the details of her involvement.
Earlier this week, anti-Brexit political campaign group Led By Donkeys created a video imagining what would have happened if the Prime Minister faced police officers Steve Arnott (Martin Compston), Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) and Kate Fleming (Vicky) in a tense interrogation over alleged parties held at Downing Street during lockdowns.
In a scene that could have been taken directly from Jed Mercurio’s crime drama, Martin, Adrian and Vicky could seemingly be heard speaking in voiceovers as they presented the PM with evidence, while clips of him speaking in interviews were superimposed into the sequence.
On the latest episode of The Graham Norton Show, the host brought up the sensational clip, saying to Vicky: ‘You’ve been viral all week with the Line of Duty spoof where you’re interrogating Boris Johnson. Did you know that was coming out?’
‘I can’t confirm or deny anything,’ she replied, as everyone laughed.
‘Okay,’ Graham responded, before adding how ‘gangbusters’ the video has gone on the internet.
‘It’s everywhere!’ he added, as Vicky nodded and remarked: ‘Yes I’ve watched it.’
If AC-12’s taught her anything, it’s definitely how to keep her cool!
Elsewhere on The Graham Norton Show – on which she appeared alongside Kenneth Branagh, Rachel Zegler, Rose Matafeo and Emeli Sandé – the actor compared what it was like starring as a lead in Trigger Point, rather than as part of an ensemble.
‘It really took me by surprise – I felt like a crew member by the end because I had to be in every day,’ she said.
‘When Martin and Adrian had an interrogation scene, I knew I could have four days off! It wasn’t the case in this show, but I was really up for it and the challenges I got were amazing.’
When asked about the tension that audiences are bound to feel watching Trigger Point, she added: ‘Trust me, the audience has a ride to go on. It is very stressful.’
The Graham Norton Show returns next Friday at 10.35pm on BBC One and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
