Lily Tomlin has jokingly recounted being offered parts in less-than-glamorous attire, such as tracksuits and wig hats.
Good Morning Britain featured an interview with the extraordinary ensemble about performing alongside Tom Brady ahead of the upcoming movie, 80 for Brady, which sees the Grace and Frankie star alongside Jane Fonda, 85, Rita Moreno, 91, and Sally Field, 76, Lily, 83.
During the 2017 season and what turns out to be a spectacular game for the New England Patriots, the ladies play a group of 80-year-old pals who make it their life’s aim to go to the Super Bowl and meet American football hero Tom.
But, after discussing the film, which revolves around ‘older ladies liking athletics,’ the conversation shifted to casting – and what older actresses got away with wearing.
‘I know we’ve all lived through the days when they would offer us parts in the tracksuit and a wig hat,’ Lily said, looking around to her co-stars to see if they would agree.
Turns out, they didn’t, as a baffled Sally Field replied: ‘No one would ever offer me a role in a tracksuit and a wig hat!
‘I’m waiting for that!’
Meanwhile, Rita questioned: ‘What the hell is a wig hat?’
Trying to explain, Lily continued: ‘You know, a hat with a piece of hair…’
‘What are you talking about?!’ Jane added.
Later in the studio, Susanna Reid and Ed Balls were joking about continuing their show while wearing a wig-hat when Richard Arnold pulled one out and revealed what it truly looked like.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
