LeVar Burton ‘thrilled’ to act opposite real-life daughter in Star Trek: Picard season 3

Star Trek star LeVar Burton has opened up about working with his daughter Mica Burton on Picard season 3, claiming he was ‘thrilled’.

LeVar returns as Geordi La Forge in episode 6 of the newest season on Prime Video, a character he initially played in 1987 in the TV series The Next Generation.

The main character, Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart), seeks his assistance, and Geordi appears with his on-and-off-screen daughter Alandra La Forge, played by Mica, as they reconnect with the engineering expert’s other kid, Sidney La Forge. (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut).

In an interview with Metro.co.uk, LeVar expressed how ‘proud’ he was of Mica, both as an actress and as a parent, and recalled what it was like to reunite with some of his old Next Generation co-stars.

‘It was great acting with Mica. I get to be not just a proud father in this regard, but also a fellow professional actor with my kid,’ the 66-year-old said.

‘There’s a great and grand tradition of second generation family members going into whatever the family business is, and I’m really thrilled to be able to provide a pathway for my own kid.’

Since 1992, LeVar has been married to his wife, professional make-up artist Stephanie Cozart. They also have a son named Eian, in addition to Mica.

Mica thanked fans for their well-wishes in a tweet following her premiere in Picard, writing: To be able to officially say I’m a part of Starfleet is… indescribable. Thank you all for all your kind words. Thank you even more so for your support.’

Picard is a tremendous nostalgia trip for Next Generation fans, with appearances by Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, and Michael Dorn as Worf.

When asked about his best set memory while working on Picard, LeVar responded, ‘For me, it was simply being back together and hanging around and being on screen together.

‘I think because our relationships are so much deeper and we’re all that much more seasoned as performers, the level of work was just really spectacular.

‘So it was a double joy, coming to work every day and being with our friends and then getting in front of the camera and just throwing down really good stuff.’

Worf actor Michael recently spoke with Metro.co.uk on his actor Trek legacy, as he holds the record for the most appearances by a regular cast member in the franchise.

‘I didn’t really really think about it or know about it until maybe five years ago or three or four… something like that, when somebody said something and I thought, “Oh my God,”‘ the 70-year-old remarked of the record. ‘ I just didn’t think about it.’

When he initially joined Next Generation, someone asked him whether he was concerned about being “typecast.”

‘It is a nice little legacy to have. A very nice little legacy. I don’t think anybody has done that, except for some of the old shows that went on for 20 years and stuff like that. But in terms of Star Trek, it was a nice little legacy to have,’ he stated.

Star Trek: Picard is available to watch on Paramount Plus via Amazon Prime Video, with new episodes released on Fridays.
