Les Dennis made a huge miscalculation by revealing that he has joined Strictly Come Dancing 2023.
The 69-year-old Family Fortunes star was unveiled as the 15th and last competitor for the BBC show, with Bobby Brazier and Amanda Abbington.
However, while the Death In Paradise actor was formally announced on Friday’s Good Morning Britain, he accidentally revealed the week before that he was cleaning off his dance shoes.
Fortunately, fans didn’t seem to clock that Les had in fact tweeted a playlist titled ‘Strictly by Les Dennis.’
Explaining the blunder, Les confessed to Ben Shepherd on GMB: ‘What happened was, the Strictly producers asked me to send a playlist of songs you might like.
‘I’m totally hopeless with social media and all that so my daughter put my playlist together for me, and put “Strictly by Les Dennis”, so I could send it to my agent by email but I must have done a fat finger error and put it on Twitter instead.’
The playlist has approximately 140 tracks, with a major emphasis on The Beatles, James Taylor, and other’real old school’ music, according to Les.
It’s also not the first time Les has revealed he’s been asked for Strictly, as producers approached him while he was on Coronation Street.
However, he stated that performers presently appearing on the ITV serial are not permitted to participate, thus he was unable to say yes at the moment.
Les said he was ‘thrilled’ to be taking part in a statement following his formal unveiling.
He said: ‘I’m thrilled to be doing this iconic wonderful show as I approach my 70th birthday!
‘In my career I’ve always gone for challenges outside my comfort zone and this is the ultimate one! Can’t wait.’
Les, who was previously married to Amanda Holden, had been heavily rumoured to be in theline-up, with an insider telling The Mail on Sunday: ‘He might be about to turn 70 but he is a showman and he will be great entertainment for those watching at home.
‘There is genuine excitement about Les taking part.’
The Celebrity Big Brother star is no stranger to dancing, as he has starred in West End productions including Hairspray, Legally Blonde, Only Fools And Horses The Musical, Chicago and The Addams Family.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
