Lady Colin Campbell appeared to defend Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew in a bizarre rant on GB News.
The writer and television personality appeared on Dan Wootton’s evening show and claimed that Prince Andrew was being made a scapegoat in the US over his connection to convicted paedophile Epstein in order to protect former President Bill Clinton.
Prince Andrew allegedly stayed at paedophile Epstein’s home at a time when he is accused of having sex with a trafficked teenager, according to reports which emerged last year.
The Duke of York said during his ‘car crash’ interview with BBC Newsnight that he did not stay at the convicted sex offender’s New York town house during a three-day trip in April 2001.
When asked if Prince Andrew had damaged the reputation of the Royal Family far more than Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Lady C had an unexpected response.
Lady C first appeared to defend Epstein by saying he was an ‘ephebophile’ (an adult who is sexually attracted to adolescents) rather than a peadophile, but said she ‘wasn’t saying’ he wasn’t a ‘bad man’.
She added: ‘Everything is layered and measured and everything should be viewed proportionately. Let’s remember, Bill Clinton, who is a far bigger name and a far heavier hitter on the world stage, was a far greater friend and for far longer than Prince Andrew.’
Clinton has been seen in several photos with the business heavyweight over the years as they interacted at dinners, fundraisers and events.
The 2020 documentary, Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, claims Clinton even spent time at Epstein’s island, Little Saint James – something the politician has always furiously denied.
Lady C went on to say: ‘Just to put things in proportion, the New York attorney general has been going after Prince Andrew because they are effectively political appointees in America.
‘It’s not like here where an attorney general is a legal appointee. They’re playing politics. Prince Andrew is to a large extent a distraction so Bill Clinton will actually be kept out of the frame.
Host Dan then added a disclaimer to the comments by saying that ‘while there were pictures of Clinton with Epstein, he has always denied that there was any form of inappropriate behaviour, as has Prince Andrew.’
Tonight Live with Dan Wootton airs on weekdays at 9pm on GB News.
