Kym Marsh emotionally opened up on how much her Strictly Come Dancing performance this week meant to her and her family, dedicating it to her late son Archie, who died shortly after birth.
The Coronation Street star, who’s partnered with Graziano Di Prima, lost her new-born son shortly after giving birth in February 2009.
Little Archie was born 18 weeks premature, passing away moments later.
Ahead of the dance, Kym began in the recording: ‘This is going to be a very very special dance to Chasing Cars.’
The 46-year-old continued: ‘That song is very special to us as a family because it reminds us of my son, Archie, I gave birth to him prematurely, and unfortunately he died shortly after he was born.
‘I feel like by doing this dance, not only is it going to be in memory of Archie but it also hopefully might get people talking about their own experiences, because it’s the right road to putting your life back together.’
Their emotional performance scored them an impressive 31 points from the judges.
‘The message you tried to come through, the fragility and vulnerability, it came through,’ judge Motsi Mabuse commented after the performance.
Anton Du Beke echoed: ‘I think we can all appreciate the dance, it was a beautiful dance.’
‘It was so nice to be able to dance that,’ Kym emotionally said after the comments, as she teared up over its special meaning.
This comes after Kym called in sick for rehearsals due to falling ill this week.
‘I will pull myself through, it is only one of those 24-hour things and I think you have got to get out there and do it, no matter what,’ she on BBC’s Morning Live.
‘Even if you have bits dropping off, you have to get out there!’
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday and Sunday on BBC One and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
