There was a slightly disgusting moment on Good Morning Britain as Kiss star Gene Simmons took his gum out of his mouth and gave it to Susanna Reid.

The presenter was interviewing the rocker ahead of Kiss’ final farewell tour, after the musician made a surprise visit to Westminster to watch PMQs on Wednesday.

(Yes, really.)

On Thursday the star went to the ITV studios to chat to Susanna and co-host Ben Shephard about the tour, which had been described as the ‘ultimate celebration for those who’ve seen us and a last chance for those who haven’t.’

The American rock band, formed in 1973, have already played in Plymouth, Birmingham, Newcastle, London and Manchester, and on Thursday will play their final show in Glasgow.

Introducing the segment on Thursday’s show, Susanna took on the role of strict school teacher as she said: ‘Gene Simmons is here, and he’s chewing gum.’

She added that his chewed gum had previously been auctioned off ‘for a ridiculous amount of money,’ to which an offended Gene said: ‘It’s not ridiculous, I’m kind of a big deal.’

And upon learning that Gene’s last piece of gum sold for almost a quarter of a million dollars, Susanna reached across the couch and held out her hand.

Gene obediently obliged, taking the used gum out of his mouth and handing it to the presenter, as Ben exclaimed: ‘She’s going to sell it!’

As Gene handed over the masticated gum to Susanna, a voice from the set exclaimed in a blend of amusement and revulsion.

Despite the icky moment, viewers enjoyed the interview – and one even quipped: ‘Who wants to bid for that piece of bubble gum?’

It follows after MPs and the public were surprised to see the musician show up in the Houses of Parliament to witness the face-off at Deputy Prime Minister’s Questions.

He was invited by DUP MP Ian Paisley, who gave him a private tour before watching Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden spar with Labour’s Angela Rayner.

He later told the PA agency that it was ‘fascinating’ to observe the proceedings, saying what he saw ‘was controlled chaos.’

‘It was the clash of wills but respectful – the right honourable so and so, it was fascinating.

‘In America, it’s like the middle finger is a salute. I think Americans can learn a big lesson in civility in how to make democracy actually work and still respect the other side.’

It’s not the first time the musician has taken an interest in British politics, having previously called then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson ‘cool as can be.’

He has also expressed his views on former US President Donald Trump, and was not nearly as flattering, saying he had ‘got all the cockroaches to rise to the top.’

‘Once upon a time, you were ashamed to be publicly racist and out there with conspiracy theories. Now it’s all out in the open because he allowed it.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
