On the first day of the new year, Netflix will debut a brand-new series that is unlike anything we’ve ever seen on their platform.
The viewers of Kaleidoscope are already asking exactly how it works, and some have even compared it to Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch, which gives the spectator the ability to determine how the tale continues.
A new drama series, featuring the likes of Giancarlo Esposito, Rufus Sewell, and Tati Gabrielle, the show has a bit of an unexpected twist in store for viewers.
On the one hand, the plot is similar to that of any other exciting heist thriller, but on the other hand, the way in which the series can be viewed is entirely original.
How to watch Kaleidoscope on Netflix
The first seven episodes of Kaleidoscope can be viewed in any sequence; nevertheless, the eighth and final episode brings an end to everything, regardless of which episode came before.
‘There are five episodes that take place before the heist, two episodes that take place after the heist, and then you get the white episode (finale),’ creator and producer Eric Garcia told Netflix.
Each episode is titled with a different colour, ending with ‘white’.
‘The idea is that when you watch the white episode, you’re learning true answers to things that have been hinted about beforehand and afterward. You really find out everybody’s true motivations. It’s almost like a skeleton key,’ Garcia said.
He added: ‘Being able to move around and watch different orders gives you a different viewpoint on the characters.’
What is Kaleidoscope about?
The synopsis of the new Netflix series reads: ‘A master thief and his crew attempt an epic and elaborate heist worth $7 billion dollars — but betrayal, greed and other threats undermine their plans.’
The story spans over the course of a 25-year period, following a group of master thieves as they attempt to break into a near-unattainable vault, in a tale loosely inspired by a true story when $70billion (£57bn) was stolen from Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy.
Who is in the cast?
The series stars Giancarlo Esposito, Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, Jai Courtney, Niousha Noor, Jordan Mendoza, Soojeong Son and Hemky Madera.
Kaleidoscope premieres on Netflix from January 1st.
