This Morning regular Josie Gibson stepped in to host for the first time in place of Holly Willoughby on Tuesday and was left incredibly emotional in the aftermath.
Josie normally fronts competition segments on the ITV daytime programme and is a favourite with viewers.
But yesterday she stepped things up a gear after she was tasked with filling into Holly’s shoes when the main presenter came down with a stomach bug on Tuesday.
Introducing the show on Wednesday morning, Phillip Schofield told viewers Holly was still unwell, with Josie back by his side.
He began: ‘Welcome to your Wednesday this morning and look who’s back!’
‘Oh, thank you very much for having me back,’ Josie replied, with Phil telling his co-star how much people ‘loved’ her debut the previous morning.
Josie then explained how she was left very emotional after completing her first gig as host, saying: ‘Do you know what? Social media can be quite a dark place at times.
‘But yesterday I was showered with love. I had a good cry, I did have a cry for about half an hour after the show.’
Her co-host joked that he often did the same, before asking: ‘Of what, relief?’
Josie shared: ‘It was just so emotional. It was a really big thing to be sat here with you yesterday and to have all those lovely messages. It was just so lovely.’
Fans were full of praise for Josie’s time presenting, with a viewer writing on Twitter: ‘First time I’ve seen Josie presenting and I think she’s doing a brilliant job! #thismorning.’
Another said: ‘Have to say Josie’s doing a really good job of presenting #ThisMorning.’
‘Josie on again! Isn’t she doing an absolutely fantastic job? Holly who ?! #ThisMorning,’ agreed another fan.
During the previous day’s programme, Phil told viewers he predicted Holly would be back for Wednesday.
However, he gave an update on her illness as she remained away from screens.
‘I was texting Holly all afternoon yesterday and, apparently, it is a tummy bug that is going around everywhere.
‘It’s a two-day thing, so she’s lost her appetite. Morning, Hols. Hope you’re all right.’
Holly also spoke out amid her absence, thanking Josie for ‘saving the day’ on her Instagram stories.
She said: ‘Thank you @josiegibson85 for saving the day yesterday… you are a dream! … I’ll be back as soon as I’m in no threat of vomiting on @schofe (sic).’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
