Josie Gibson comforted by fans after breaking down in tears on This Morning

Josie Gibson received encouragement from fans on Tuesday morning after becoming visibly distraught during an emotional portion of This Morning.

The 37-year-old British television personality sat on the sofa with co-host Craig Doyle, Strictly Come Dancing star Annabel Croft, and agony aunt Deidre Sanders to discuss mourning.

Annabel, 57, lost her husband Mel Coleman in May 2023 and performed in Strictly shortly after his death, reaching the semi-finals of the reality show.

Josie grew overcome during the episode when bereaved mother Shelley called in and spoke about the tragedy of her teenage daughter, who died at the age of 19 due to sickness.

Speaking to the This Morning studio on the phone, Shelley said: ‘I’m just so heartbroken, every day is so hard. She was so brave and amazing throughout the two years of her illness.’

Shelley continued: ‘I looked after her 24 hours a day for those whole two years and now I just feel so lost. I go into her room and say good morning and good night to her every night. I just don’t know how to deal with this.’

At this moment, Josie, the mother of small boy Reggie, could be seen fighting to hold back tears as she dabbed her eyes with a tissue; viewers at home were eager to express their support for the emotional TV presenter.

Posting on X, MissFee85 commented: ‘This is why Josie should be the new presenter. They are talking about grief, which I myself am going through, and she’s crying. So much empathy for others.’

Another viewer, Jules, said, ‘Oh Josie. Honestly this is why she should be on full time. Her and Craig are so compassionate and so genuine. Josie trying to keep it together is all of us.’

Josie was recently passed over for the primary presenting role on This Morning, as the ITV magazine programme moves on after the exits of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Instead, TV veterans Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard will take up presenting duties from Monday to Thursday, while Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond will remain in their Friday role.

Cat and Ben will begin their new duties next month, so Josie and Craig will serve as relief presenters until the new faces arrive.

Josie returned to This Morning this week with a brand new hairdo after showcasing her new looks on Instagram over the weekend.

She captioned the post: ‘Thank you to @fourlondon for changing my locks. I’ve known these ladies for years, and they are insanely talented.’

She continued, saying, ‘It’s a real family atmosphere when you walk in and I had a scream getting my hair done,’ before adding that held her friends responsible for the hangover she was nursing during the hair appointment.
