Jeremy Strong has stated that filming Logan Roy’s death scene on Succession was a ‘heartbreaking’ experience.
The Roy patriarch (Brian Cox) died following a medical issue on his own jet in last week’s shocking episode of the HBO drama.
Kendall (Jeremy), Shiv (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Connor (Alan Ruck) were shown coming to grips with their father’s death in the aftermath.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the 9th annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, the celebrated actor explained the emotional sequences and what this meant going ahead.
‘It was heartbreaking. It was heartbreaking to read,’ he recalled. ‘It was heartbreaking to film, and shocking in the suddenness of grief and the banal way these things happen in real life.
‘The center has fallen out from our world, and everything is off axis. We have to contend for power in a pit viper fight until the end.’
Jeremy was also questioned if he was aware of the memes around his usage of the term ‘dramaturgically’ in a behind-the-scenes tidbit from last week’s dramatic Succession episode.
When the film of him saying he ‘wasn’t terribly surprised’ about Logan’s death went viral, the 44-year-old got the meme treatment.
The comment sparked outrage on social media, but Jeremy admitted he hadn’t seen any of it.
‘Well, it’s a real word…,’ he said in defense. ‘I’m like a theater nerd and it’s a theater nerd word, so I stand by it.’
Never change, Jeremy.
Succession airs on Sundays on HBO Max in the US, and on Mondays on Now and in the UK.
