Temporary Piers Morgan Uncensored host Jeremy Kyle interrupted Bill Bailey while the comedian was mid-speech speaking about his late friend Sean Lock, who died in August last year aged 58.
To mark one year since Lock’s death, who was diagnosed with ‘advanced’ lung cancer, Bailey is taking part in a 100-mile walk along a section of the South West Coast Path in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Bailey, who won Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, explained on his JustGiving page that he would be joined by Lock’s family and friends for the seven-day journey from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon, which was one of his and Lock’s favourite routes to walk together.
On Tuesday evening, the 57-year-old comedian made an appearance on TalkTV’s Piers Morgan Uncensored to speak about the walk, which has already managed to raise over £60,000 for the cancer charity.
However, at one point during the conversation when Bailey was talking about how he and Lock used to love walking together, Kyle – who is standing in for Piers Morgan while the usual host takes a break – spoke over his guest to ask another question.
Prior to that moment, Bailey described how ‘chuffed’ he believed Lock would feel by his family and friends taking part in the walk, as the late 8 Out of 10 Cats star ‘loved spending time’ with those close to him.
‘It’s turned into a wonderful… an occasion where we all get together and everyone is remembering him and talking about him and coming up with stories, so I think he’d be really chuffed. It’s the kind of thing he would love,’ he said.
Continuing, Bailey added: ‘Sean loved walking, he loved the outdoors. Sean and I walked miles and miles together over the years, particularly this section of the coast, which is one of his favourites places for us to walk.’
However, Bailey was still in the middle of talking about his and Lock’s ‘favourite places’ when Kyle interjected to state: ‘Now I know you’ve got upcoming shows at London’s Royal Opera House, as part of the En Route To Normal international tour.’
The comedian stopped what he was saying to allow Kyle to put forward one more question, as the host asked: ‘Do me a favour, to finish Bill – you’re one of the best, how good was he? What made Sean Lock so good at comedy?’
In response, the comedian graciously replied: ‘He had a unique sense of humour. Sean had a brilliant mind, a brilliant comic sensibility. He had that unpredictable quality, which so many other comics would turn out to watch. He was a real one off.’
Following Lock’s death, Bailey told ITV News that they ‘tried to make the most of the last few years’, telling the programme: ‘We spent a lot of time together and went on trips together. And he’s continued to work.’
‘He’s amazingly courageous and tough individual who was mentally strong throughout the whole time. I’m just grateful for the time we have had together,’ he said.
