Jennifer Saunders shades Madonna as she insists she’s ‘not fighting’ ageing on Kathy Burke: Growing Up

Jennifer Saunders is the latest star to make a scathing reference to Madonna on Kathy Burke: Growing Up.

The comedian, 58, explores the consequences of ageing as well as what it’s like to be a young person nowadays in the Channel 4 docuseries.

The two-parter features superstars such as the Absolutely Fabulous actor, Bill Bailey, and Charlotte Church, as well as citizens from throughout the country.

Kathy addressed the Absolutely Fabulous performer, 64, about the ageing process and if she was ‘loving it’ in the first episode, which aired on It’s A Sin on Wednesday.

The French and Saunders star responded: ‘I’m not fighting it with all my might. I care less about the face.

‘When you start doing too much, where is it going to end? Madonna is all I have to say.’

The actor’s comments came after the Like A Virgin singer, 64, hit back at critics, including Piers Morgan, over her Grammy presentation.

The Vogue model was at the party to present Sam Smith and Kim Petras with the award for outstanding pop duo/group performance for their track Unholy.

After the response, Madonna said she got ‘caught in the spotlight of ageism and sexism’ in a remark uploaded on Instagram.

‘[The pictures] taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer that would distort anyone’s face!!,’ the Lika a Prayer chart topper explained.

Madonna continued: ‘Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in.

‘A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 and feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working and adventurous.

‘I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start.

‘I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.’

Several celebrities backed Madonna following the comments, including Susanna Reid, who said,’she is doomed if she does, damned if she doesn’t.’

Kathy Burke: Growing Up is available to stream on All4.
